Your Story Isn't Over Yet!
It is…
SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY !!!
ANDDDD…
TRENDY TUESDAZE!
If you see the semicolon used for suicide awareness this is why:
“Where the author could’ve ended the sentence but decided to keep going; the author is you and the sentence is your life.”
For my statistic lovers, here you go.
A SUICIDE EVERY 12 SECONDS IN THE US.
EVERY 40 SECONDS WORLDWIDE.
HEARTBREAKING.
SO YES.
THIS NEEDS TO BE TALKED ABOUT.
MORE AWARENESS NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
If you are having suicidal thoughts, do not be ashamed. So did I. If you do not feel comfortable talking to a friend, or family or even the hotline you can text HOME to 741741 to speak to a trained counselor.
WHATEVER IT TAKES, PLEASE REACH OUT.
One conversation can change a life and save a life.
For the people that want to help raise awareness or help prevent more suicides in the community check this list out below.
Reach out to the people you love and care about and check in on them as much as you check social media.
When someone says they feel depressed or they feel like they are struggling with their mental health, DO NOT say get over it. Be there for them. Listen to them. Comfort them.
Understand that suicide is not a choice. Look at it as if it is Stage 4 Depression. When the doctor tells cancer patients there is no hope and they have less than 6 months to live. This is what our brains tell us when we have suicidal thoughts, that there is no hope and the only option left is death.
Do not judge. Try to understand. Do your research.
There are free support groups if they cannot afford therapy, lead them to it. Help them not feel alone during this difficult time. Advocate for them do not be against them.
GIVE THEM HOPE! Do not tell them to just forget about the past and move on.
BE KIND. You do not know what someone is going through behind closed doors.
