WHO AND WHAT IS GULLYTHOUGHTS LLC?
It all started when…
I was diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder in 2017. While in a 3 week outpatient program at a mental hospital, I was in a very dark, empty, and lonely season in my life and attempted suicide. After coming out of the hospital and being in intense therapy I realized how much other people were hurting too and it wasn’t just me. This was my motivation to write my books Unorthodox Words and Heal, Boss Up and Repeat. They both talk about my depression and how I had to reflect a lot , heal a lot, and give myself a lot more self love than I ever have if I wanted to not go back to that dark place.
My name is Jaquia Abreu, and I am the CEO of the mental health awareness company, Gully Thoughts LLC. I created this company to give people alternative resources, because I didn’t see those resources exist already in my community. They always say be the hero you needed when you were younger, and I needed a safe space, so my goal with Gully Thoughts is to always provide that.
I create mental health awareness and empowerment workshops, Boss Up programs, book clubs, camps, poetry events, mental health awareness events, and clothes all for one purpose; to give people hope. This is not just my business, but my avenue to remind people of their own power and their own strength as well. My community work is my favorite type of work. I created a poetry camp for high school students in the H.Y.P.E Freedom School Program to help empower their own voice and show them how to express their pain and their joy through art. I have went to college campuses and spoken to TSU, PVAMU, UofH students and have created workshops for high school students to heal from their trauma and find their inner greatness despite the things that have happened to them. I have curated mental health awareness pep rallies for elementary students to teach them about self-worth despite bullying or anything else that gets in their way. I love to speak, to perform poetry, to inspire, and to share what I wish was shared to me at that age.
